A CONSIDERED BEGINNING
MEET KAREN

Karen Anastasia Prescod brings 17 years of corporate leadership and more than 20 years of entrepreneurial and community experience to this work.
In 2017, she rebuilt the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Women’s Council, assembled its board and facilitated a strategic-planning workshop.
She is the founder of the women’s conference Excuse Me, That’s My Seat. Through Wisdom Warrior Leadership, she creates space for leaders to reflect on how they see themselves, the work and the people they lead.
Karen has lived with chronic pain that wasn’t always visible, even while she was working, speaking or leading. After her wife, Tracey, transitioned, she came to know grief in another form. Those experiences are part of the life behind her work: remembering that what someone is carrying isn’t always something you can see.
Karen founded Bowtie Kids, a nonprofit that inspires courage, confidence and self-expression in children living with chronic pain while supporting their families. She also launched The Bowtie Gurl, a fashion and empowerment brand built around the message: Be Courageous. Be Confident. Be You.
Her solo travels have taken her through 24 countries across five continents in 22 months.
The travel did not create the message. It confirmed it.
Her work makes space to pause, reflect and stay open to what emerges.
You do not need to know someone’s entire story to remember that there is one.
In 2023, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Women’s Council established the Karen Prescod Trailblazer Award in her honor.

She used her leadership skills to create a motivated and focused team to accomplish the tasks.
It has been my pleasure to have worked with Karen Prescod in my role as Chairman of the Board of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce in 2017. Karen was the one board member to distinguish herself through her leadership. When we needed someone to take on a difficult project she was the person I could count on. On more than one occasion she took on a project or committee that had not worked or was having problems. She used her leadership skills to create a motivated and focused team to accomplish the tasks. I can say that she is a can-do person, up for any challenge and is someone that gets it done. I have the utmost professional respect for her and would recommend her for leadership roles.
On working with Karen while chairing the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce in 2017.
Karen is both challenging and inspirational as a leader.

On Karen’s leadership.
I've witnessed a highly focused, ultimate professional who leads by example, commands respect, and is a results-driven force.
I've observed Karen since she got involved in the Chamber. I've witnessed a highly focused, ultimate professional who leads by example, commands respect, and is a results-driven force. Humble by nature, but relentless and determined to make a difference. Too often while we notice these positive characteristics in a person, we forget to share them with the world. Karen ROCKS!
On observing Karen’s leadership through her involvement in the Chamber.
She quickly created a vision for this group through a workshop retreat.
As Chairman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, I had to select a leader worthy of the 2016 Chairman Award. I was pleased to award Karen Prescod for her amazing leadership as she was instrumental in our Gay & Lesbian Business Council to leap to the next level. Her collaborative nature ensured that there was transparency to build trust amongst her board. She quickly created a vision for this group through a workshop retreat. It was important for her to surround herself with strength and influential leaders. As she was traveling through change, her empathetic nature engaged her team to be loyal, engaged and productive. Constantly she challenged her team to be innovative and pulled them to be ahead of the plan. Throughout this year she remained grounded towards her fellow members, ethical in all of her interaction and most importantly passionate about building great momentum and success. Karen Prescod, a true servant leader to our community.
